Newton Foundation
The Newton Foundation is an international institution – with its own exhibition venue in Berlin – dedicated to the promotion, preservation and presentation of the photographic works of Helmut Newton and his wife June Newton, who under the name of Alice Springs has also produced a significant body of portraiture photography since 1970.
According to the wishes of its founder Helmut Newton, the Newton Foundation should not be a “dead museum”, but a “living institution”. As such, each exhibition presents a selection of Helmut Newton’s innovative, provocative images in dialogue with works by the very best photographers of our time.
The popularity of the exhibitions has allowed the Newton Foundation to establish itself as an dynamic part of Berlin’s cultural scene. Since 2004 it has welcomed more than two million visitors.

Intermezzo. Revisiting Helmut Newton
From 24 April
After more than 20 years of successfully presenting the permanent exhibition Helmut Newton’s Private Property on the ground floor of the Museum of Photography, we are presenting an expanded exhibition concept called Intermezzo. Revisiting Helmut Newton – and introduce a new, more immersive way to experience Helmut Newton’s work and personality.
At the heart of the presentation is an impressive film room: eight video projectors and four large-format screens stage an elaborately produced film portrait of our foundation’s founder. Immerse yourself in Newton’s legacy, witness the master at work, and listen to moving anecdotes shared by his companions and contemporaries.
